10 tips to get your boat ready for winter

Getting Your Boat Winter-Ready!

By giving your boat some TLC now, you’re setting the stage for a smooth sailing experience when the warmer days return.
Here’s a quick guide to ensure your boat stays shipshape during the colder months and a reminder that our crew can help you with any tasks🖐

1️⃣Clean & Dry
Before tucking your boat in, give it a thorough cleaning. Remove any dirt, salt, or grime from the hull and deck. Don’t forget to clean out the interior too. A dry boat is a happy boat!

2️⃣ Flush the Engine
Run a quality marine engine flush through your boat’s motor. This helps eliminate any salt or debris, ensuring a smooth start come spring.

3️⃣ Fuel Treatment
Treat your fuel with a stabilizer to prevent it from breaking down over the winter. This simple step will save you from engine issues when it’s time to hit the waves again.

4️⃣ Oil Change
Change the oil and replace the oil filter. Fresh oil will protect your engine during the winter months.

5️⃣ Battery Care
If possible, remove the boat’s battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Make sure to charge it periodically to keep it in top condition.

6️⃣ Inspect & Repair
Give your boat a thorough inspection. Check for any damages or wear and tear. Address any issues now so that you can enjoy a worry-free boating season next year.

7️⃣ Cover Up
Invest in a good quality boat cover to shield your vessel from the elements. This will protect against snow, rain, and UV rays.

8️⃣ Propeller Protection
Remove the propeller and inspect it for any damage. Grease the propeller shaft and reinstall it to prevent corrosion.

9️⃣ Bilge Care
Clean the bilge and make sure it’s dry. Consider using a bilge heater to prevent freezing in extremely cold climates.

🔟 Secure Your Boat
Double-check that your boat is securely stored on its trailer or in its slip. Ensure it’s stable and won’t be affected by winter storms.
